METAL PULP AND PAPER: Hello Emma. So glad to be catching up with you. Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions for Metal Pulp And Paper about the upcoming 2019 Aftershock Festival that you are slated to be playing at in Sacramento, California coming this October.
Aftershock is a monstrous event for music fans and music lovers everywhere. It’s metal, it’s rock and roll, it’s more metal, and it’s more rock and roll. To sum it up, it’s a three-day event with three stages, with over 50 artists at the Discovery Park in beautiful Sacramento, California. Are you geared up and ready for it?
EMMA ANZAI: We sure are! We’ve currently been working on our new album, but we’ve been chomping at the bit to get out there to rock some shows. Especially Aftershock.
MPAP: Tell us some of the best things about being a part of a music festival, especially playing at one of this magnitude?
EMMA: It’s everything really, it’s the atmosphere, it’s the 'throw and go' nature of it all, it’s being able to check out your fav bands all in one show. And last but not least, the crowd is electric.
MPAP: Explain to us what is a day in the life when you’re performing at a music festival? Do you go hang out with the other bands, mingle with the fans, or kick back and relax on the tour bus until it’s time to hit the stage?
EMMA: It all depends on the day, but it usually starts with a bunch of coffee! Then usually there’s press/interviews for the festival that we do either before or after our set, it’s usually a 'go go go' type thing and somewhere in there you fit in meals and getting ready for the show. It’s all very exciting on the day and the show is a massive pay off, the hour of the day that you eagerly wait for, there’s nothing better than festivals.
MPAP: This year’s bill has Slipknot, Staind, Tool, Korn, along with many others, including Lamb Of God, Highly Suspect, Gojira, and Babymetal. Is there any group that you’re especially looking forward to watching from the side stage the day you perform?
EMMA: Yeah there are a ton of great bands playing this festival. Really excited to see Blink 182, Bring Me The Horizon and Badflower.
MPAP: What’s in the crosshairs for Sick Puppies after the festival? What else do you have going on after that we should all know about?
EMMA: We will have a new single out around this time or about to come out, but after that it will be touring, and maybe some European touring too.
MPAP: On behalf of myself and Metal Pulp And Paper, thank you, Emma, for taking the time to answer a few questions. We look forward to what Sick Puppies does to finish out 2019 and beyond.
EMMA: Thanks so much!
MPAP: Any last words for all your fans and all the Aftershock Festival maniacs out there that will see you in October? What do you want to tell them so they will go out and buy tickets and travel to California to see you and many others play live?
EMMA: Just come to the festival and let it all out! Nothing more cathartic than a rock show. Can’t wait to see you all there.
